The position for the hook is dependent on the weight, you can use any of the shapes such as square and round as long as it's not too big, or too small and still fits into your space. The most important thing is that the position of the hook should be in line with where you will hang your clothes, so that it's close to a wall that's perpendicular to you or somewhere else in your room (if hanging on a pole or some other support) – but remember that you have to have enough clearance from other things around the room too.
